Thank you!

The business of people power

Dear ,

It’s not always easy to be optimistic about the state of the planet. Trump, climate change and petty politics can all make us feel despair.

But, at The Wilderness Society, we are not in the despair business.

We’re in the business of people power—fighting for what’s right and providing a powerful voice for nature and wilderness.

As we wind down 2017, I offer my heartfelt thanks to you for your support over the past 12 months. This year, we moved mountains.

Together, we put pressure on Chevron, resulting in it deciding to abandon its plans to drill for oil in the Great Australian Bight. Simply incredible.

The campaign to end deforestation became one of the top environmental issues in the country. It led to the release of a visionary package of policies during the Queensland election that will now be implemented by the returned Queensland Labor Government.

In Tassie, a move by the government to open up 400,000 hectares of priceless forests to logging was defeated in the Tasmanian Upper House.

And just yesterday, the WA Environment Minister Stephen Dawson announced the final outright rejection of mining of the Helena Aurora Range and the intention to create a Helena Aurora Range national park.

These are just some of the many campaign milestones from across the country that we achieved together.

Your actions, your voices, your advocacy and your financial support made these wins possible.

Our Movement For Life community organising program grows from strength to strength. Local groups have been formed, trainers have been trained and thousands of Australians have now been transformed into change agents in defence of nature and wilderness.

2018 will see us build on these successes. We will continue to fight for the Great Australian Bight, protect our forests and woodlands, and demand new national environment laws that work.

It is a honour to represent you. On behalf of everyone at The Wilderness Society, I wish you a peaceful and festive Christmas and New Year.

Yours for nature,

Lyndon
