Habitat loss from native forest logging has pushed the swift parrot to the brink of extinction.
Today, as few as 750 swift parrots remain in the wild. Now with the threat of H5N1 bird flu looming, the situation has become even more urgent.
The swift parrot urgently needs your help. By sponsoring a swift parrot, together we can make sure it has a home to come back to.

Bird flu has arrived in Australia
With logging already threatening its survival, the swift parrot now faces a new and growing threat. The H5 bird flu (H5N1) is decimating bird populations globally and could be catastrophic for the swift parrot.
New scientific evidence highlights habitat protection as the highest priority action for the critically endangered swift parrot, if it is to have a fighting chance of surviving this new threat.
Despite decades of scientific evidence and community efforts, governments have repeatedly chosen policies that allow critical swift parrot habitat to be destroyed. The time has come to end logging in threatened species habitat and save the swift parrot, before it's too late!
The clock is ticking:
Right now, the Tasmanian and Federal Governments are close to signing a new deal that would let native forest logging in Lutruwita / Tasmania continue under Australia's new environmental laws.
Your ongoing support means we can fight for a future where the swift parrot still has a voice. Alongside scientists, Traditional Owners and conservation partners, the Wilderness Society will keep pushing decision-makers to put threatened species ahead of the industry that's driving them toward extinction.
You can help stand between the swift parrot and extinction. Sponsor this remarkable species and help give it a future.
