One more and it could be too late

There are some forests that are meant to burn—they regenerate through fire—and there are some forests that aren’t. For the last several weeks, Australia has been on fire. Beyond the devastating human cost, these fires are game-changing for Australia’s iconic nature. Fires have torn through two World Heritage areas, burning rainforests that have stood since the Cretaceous period.

Globally beloved species like the koala are struggling with climate impacts—like wildfires decimating their homes—and weak national nature laws that let self-interested corporations trample over Australian communities to damage our wildlife and forests.

Right now, Australia’s environment laws—the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act—are up for review: it’s a once-in-a-decade chance to ensure animals like the koala and our ancient rainforest ecosystems can survive the worsening impacts of climate change.

Your donation will:

  • Help make sure that the new national laws address the climate crisis and protect wildlife habitat threatened by wildfires
  • Train Wilderness Society supporters to get their concerns heard by the review in an impactful and effective way
  • Build pressure on the federal government to create strong, new nature laws that work and an independent regulator to enforce them
  • Support community leaders across Australia and put the power back into the hands of the people, not vested interests

You are choosing to donate this amount every 4 weeks.
